The Super Heavy Tank T28

This ultra heavy tank was built towards the end of the war in order to give the coup de grace to the Third Reich. Indeed, the United States feared the invasion of Germany and especially the fortified areas. In order to break the German fortifications, and especially those on the border with France, they devised a super tank equipped with a powerful cannon. As a weapon, he had a 105 mm gun and a 50-caliber machine-gun.

This 95 tons monster had 4 caterpillars to move, 2 on each side. It would be transported by rail because of its weight, its low autonomy, and its slowness because of its major engine problem (13 km / h on the road!). On the shield side, it was well equipped, with a 305 mm front shield for the superstructure, 133 mm for the underbody and 63 mm for the other parts. In order to see outside, the 4 crew had periscopes, and they occupied 2/3 of the length of the tank (the bearings occupying the rest).

This tank project sank with the end of the war ... Only 5 specimens were created, and there is only one left today.
