The M2 half-track

It was as early as 1939 that the US Army wanted to equip itself with a vehicle capable of firing guns and carrying equipment. Several prototypes were then proposed, including the T14, which was chosen to be mass-produced in 1940. Between that date and 1943, no less than 11,415 copies came out of American production chains.

The vehicle's armor was 6.4 mm for all sides, with the exception of the armored shutter of the windshield which was 13 mm thick. At the front of the vehicle is 2 seats, plus one just behind. The first two are for the driver and his assistant, the one in the back for the vehicle commander. There were no windows as can be seen in the photo, but just two small reclosable slots.

Half-Track M2A1: This new model was consu to improve its protection against all attacks. It was therefore installed a circular M45 desk on which was mounted a 12.7 Browning machine gun. In addition, three receptacles for 30-gauge machine guns were adopted in place of the single rail around the compartment, which was not really practical in a combat situation. Between October 1943 and March 1944, 1,643 M2A1 were produced, of which 1266 M2 were converted.
