USS North Carolina ( BB-55 and BB-56 )


The North Carolina class includes 2 battleships: BB 55 "North Carolina" (which gave its name to the class) and BB 56 "Washington". 
 

The BB-55 North Carolina: Launch the 13/06/1940.
During the war, its anti-aircraft armament was increased by 96 guns of 40 mm.
In 1941 it is in the North Atlantic. Then it passes in the Pacific in June and participates in these engagements: Guadalcanal, Solomon (it is damaged the 15/9/1942 by a torpedo of the Japanese submarine I-15).
Repaired, he participated in operations in the Gilberts, Kwajalein, Raid on Truk, Saipan, Philippine Sea, Iwo Jima. He also participates in the Okinawa campaign and the destruction of Yamato





The BB-56 Washington: Launch the 01/06/1940.
During the war, its anti-aircraft armament was increased by 60 guns of 40 mm.
In 1941 he patrolled with the British Home Fleet in the North Atlantic.
On 23/08/1942 he went to the Pacific and participated in these engagements: Guadalcanal (second battle of Guadalcanal of 15/11/1942) .Gilbert, Kwajalein, Saipan, Mariannes, Palau, Strait of Surigao, Battle of Leyte Golf, Iwo Jima and Okinawa.
